Ten activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), including the district president, have been injured in a factional clash between two rival groups of BCL Kishoreganj unit.
The clash erupted in front of district Awami League office following the announcement of forming district BCL committee making Shafiqul Ghani Limon as the president on Wednesday night.
After the announcement, BCL Joint secretary Khairuzzaman Putun rejected the newly formed committee.
Kishoreganj model police station Officer-in-Charge Mir Mosharraf Hossain said: “The supporters of Limon and Putun locked into clashes over the matter.”
At one point, they opened fired in front of the district AL office, leaving Limon including 10 others injured around 10pm, he said.
The OC said: “Of the injured, Limon and three other activists received bullet injuries. They were admitted to Kishoreganj 250-bed Sadar Hospital while others were admitted to nearby clinics.”
Additional police and RAB personnel were deployed in the area to avoid further untoward situation, added the official.
No case was filed in this connection till filing of this report at 11:45am.
