Different socio-cultural organisations have started their pre-scheduled sit-in demonstration in front of the Shaheed Minar to resist any attempt of taking Piash Karim's body there.
The sit-in programme started around 10am and will be continued till 2pm.
Slogan 71, an organisation of Dhaka University students; online-based organisation Praner 71; and a faction of Gonojagoron Moncho led by Kamal Pasha are staging the sit-in programme.
Foizuddin Manik, president of Slogan 71, told the Dhaka Tribune: "We are observing our pre-scheduled programme. We will resist the move of taking Piash Karim's body to Shaheed Minar.
"We heard that Piash Karim's body would be brought here on Friday instead of on Wednesday."
Brac University Professor Piash Karim died of cardiac arrest at a city hospital on Monday.
Soon after the announcement that his body would be taken to the Shaheed Minar, people from different sections and various groups in social media criticised the decision.
