Locals have foiled attempts of land grabbing by the vice chairman of Sreepur Upazila on Tuesday.
Over 100 followers of Sreepur Upazila vice Chairman also the President of Sreepur Municipality Awami League unit Rafiqul Islam Mandal Bulbul, arcaded to grab a piece of land at Kewa area under Sreepur Municipality of the district.
Among the locals, Ainuddin and Giasuddin said: “We are living in our parental land since our childhood. But Afaz Uddin of the area declared him as an owner of the land and sold to Sreepur Upazila vice chairman.”
“An arbitration meeting was scheduled to be held on Tuesday at Sreepur police station to solve the issue. But we found none there,” they added.
After a while they informed that Rafiqul’s followers were occupied to grab the land. On information, locals rushed to the spot and drove away the followers from the scene, they informed.
Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur police station Mohsinul Kadir told the Dhaka Tribune, after being informed, police rushed to the spot and managed to control the situation before any untoward incident took place there.
‘None filed any complaint in this connection and none was also arrested,” the OC added.
The Sreepur Upazila vice Chairman denied the allegation saying, ‘It is propaganda against me, and it is a lie.”
“I just went there to prove that I was not involved in such attempts.”
