Mobile court, in a drive, has evicted at least 300 slums from both sides of the railway tracks in Chittagong city’s Dewanhat and Tigerpass areas.
Yasin Faruk, officer-in-charge (OC) of Government Railway Police (GRP) Chittagong Station Outpost, said Bangladesh Railway (east) Chittagong and Chittagong District Administration jointly conducted the eviction drive in the area on Tuesday.
Chief State Officer (east) Jasim Uddin of Chittagong Railway led the drive while executive magistrate Aminul Islam also led the court on behalf of the district administration.
At least 300 slums were evicted from both sides of the railway tracks in Dewanhat, rail crossing area and Tigerpass area which were built by grabbing railway land, hampering the smooth movement of trains, said the OC.
The eviction drive would be continued in different railway areas, said the OC adding police, GRP personnel and Railway Nirapotta Bahini (RNB) assisted during the drive.
