Update : 14 Oct 2014, 05:57 AM

A man has been hacked to death and his sons have been injured when rival group members attacked them centring a land dispute at Nandanpara village in Barisal.

The deceased is Khadem Sardar, 56. His sons Aslam Sardar, 26, and Shah Alam Sardar, 22, sustained injuries during the clash on Monday night.

Gournadi police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam said Khadem Sardar and his neighbours Nannu Member and Sentu Mridha had a long-standing dispute over the ownership of land properties.

Khadem's family constructed a pillar to mark the boundary of the disputed land on Monday afternoon.

He said following the matter, the supporters of Nannu and Sentu attacked Khadem and his sons with sharp and lethal weapons around 9pm, leaving the three injured.

The OC said Khadem died on the way to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex at night while his sons were admitted there.

Later, Aslam was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in a critical condition.

He said: “Shah Alam Sardar lodged a case against 10 people including Nannu and Sentu on Tuesday morning.”
