Biranganas recognised as freedom fighters

The government has recognised Biranganas, women who were tortured by the Pakistan army and their local collaborators during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, as freedom fighters.

According to the new definition, those who were at least 15-year old on March 26, 1971, now they can apply for their freedom-fighter status.

The decisions came from a meeting of the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council, held at its office at Moghbazar in the capital, BSS reported.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque chaired the meeting.
