At least 10 people, including a magistrate, sustained injuries in a clash between the local fishermen and the members of coast guard at Akhoner Hat of Chandpur.
Later, the navy police and the coast guard members held nine fishermen, who were sentenced to one-year imprisonment.
The law enforcers also seized egg carrying Hilsha fishes and current netS from their possession.
The police said a joint team of district administration, fisheries department, navy police and coast guard conducted a drive in the Akhoner ghat area.
At one stage of the drive, the fishermen hurled brick chips on the Tasks force members, leaving Chandpur Executive Magistrate Rajibul Islam Khan injured.
In retaliation, the law enforcers fired 21 rounds of rubber bullets and 19 rounds of blank shots, leaving nine fishermen injured.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals. Later, nine fishermen were sentenced to one-year imprisonment for catching Hilsa fishes during ban.
The government has banned Hilsha fishing from October 5-15 aimed at ensuring safe breeding of the delicious fish and increasing its production.
