NBR hopes 14 lakh TIN holders to file returns

Update : 12 Oct 2014, 07:05 PM

National Board of Revenue (NBR) is expecting that a total of 14 lakh taxpayers, who are registered with Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN), will file their returns this year before the expiry of the extended deadline on November 2.

NBR Chairman Ghulam Hussain yesterday expressed the hope while unveiling the “Tax Guide 2014-15” published by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at NBR headquarters in the capital.

Last year, around 9.5 lakh taxpayers filed their tax returns out of a total around 17 lakh TIN holders.

The DCCI publishes the tax guide every year after the national budget to create awareness among the taxpayers.

Among others, DCCI Ppresident Mohammad Shahjahan Khan, its directors and top NBR officials attended the programme.

“The deadline set for tax return submission on November 2 won’t be extended further. If the taxpayers face any problem, they can get supports from the respective tax offices within the stipulated time frame,” said the NBR chairman.

He expected the tax guide would help in enhancing tax-related knowledge among people and also facilitate the taxpayers in filing the income tax returns as it is a critical process.

The Tax Guide 2014-15 covers up-to-date information on income tax, customs duty, supplementary duty and value added tax (VAT) to help the business entrepreneurs, banks, non-banking financial institutions, insurance companies and other corporate business houses to understand the taxation system of the country.

Along with the core issues, the tax guide also covers different schedules, statutory regulatory orders and other orders.
