Ghulam Azam’s health unchanged

Update : 11 Oct 2014, 06:24 PM

The physical condition of convicted war criminal and Jamaat guru Ghulam Azam has remained unchanged.

Doctors yesterday found infection in his lung after conducting an x-ray. Last month he suffered from pneumonia-like illness (respiratory problem).

Ghulam Azam, 92, was taken to the cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) on Thursday from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) with kidney complications.

A three-member medical board was formed on Friday headed by Prof Dr ABM Abdullah, dean of medicine faculty, for his treatment.

Brig Gen (retd) Abdul Majid Bhuiyan, director of BSMMU, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday that there was no mentionable improvement of his  physical condition. “He has been suffering from multiple old-age diseases.”

The former Jamaat-e-Islami chief was sentenced to 90-year imprisonment on July 15 last year for the crimes against humanity he had committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
