Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted the local cautionary signal no. three.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, a Met Office release said.
The severe cyclonic storm "Hudhud" over west central bay and adjoining east central bay moved slightly northwestwards over the same area.
The cyclonic storm was centered at midnight on October 10 about 970 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 900 kms southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 860 kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 850 kms south-southwest of Payra port (near lat 15.3n and long 85.6oe).
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 74 kms of the storm centre is about 120 kph rising to 140 kph in gusts/ squalls.
Sea will remain very high near the storm centre.
Under the influence of a very severe cyclonic storm, squally weather may affect the North Bay, coastal areas of Bangladesh and the maritime ports.
