Cyclonic storm Hudhud intensifies

Cyclonic storm "Hudhud" is heading towards India’s southeastern coast and mostly likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm.

The storm has gathered strength, triggering landslides and snapping power and phone links as it crossed the Andaman and Nicobar islands on Wednesday.

The cyclonic storm would cross north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur by October 12.

According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, cyclonic storm “Hudhud” over Southeast Bay and adjoining area was centred about 1025-Km South-Southwest of Chittagong Port, 940-Km South-Southwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, 1015-Km South-Southeast of Mongla Port And 975-Km South of Payra Port.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54-Km of the storm centre is about 62 Kph rising to 88 Kph in gusts and squalls.

Sea will remain very rough near the storm centre, said the special bulletin of meteorological department.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal no two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
