President mourns death of language hero Matin

President Abdul Hamid has expressed deep shock at the death of language movement veteran Abdul Matin.

In a condolence message, conveyed by the president's press secretary Ihsanul Karim over phone, the president who is now in Saudi Arabia said Abdul Matin had played a leading role in the historic language movement in 1952 which the nation will remember forever.

The nation has lost an illustrated son of the soil in his death, he said.

The president prayed for the peace of the departed soul of Abdul Matin and conveyed sympathy to members of his bereaved family.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip ASM Feroz of the House also expressed deep shock at the demise of the Language Movement hero.

In a condolence message, the Speaker said, "Md Abdul Matin was dedicated to the nation. With his demise, the country has lost an ideal man."

Expressing shock, the deputy speaker, in a condolence message said, "Abdul Matin was a brave son of time. The country has suffered an irreparable loss at his death."

In another condolence message, the chief whip said, "The loss that was occurred at the demise of Abdul Matin, is irreparable."

Abdul Matin passed away at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Wednesday morning.
