Two robbers have been killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in Mrigamari area of the Sundarbans.
The deceased are Zakir and Raju, members of Awal Bahini.
Lt Col Faridul Islam of RAB 8 said: “Acting on a tip off, a RAB team raided Mrigamari area of Chandpai range in Sundarbans on Wednesday morning.”
The official said sensing the presence of the law enforcers; the bandits opened fire at the RAB members and tried to flee the place.
In retaliation, the RAB personnel also opened fire on the robbers that continued for forty minutes, leaving two bandits dead on the spot,” he added.
Later, RAB members recovered seven arms, 150 rounds of bullets, one trawler, two solar panels, few lethal weapons and medicines from the spot.
RAB is continuing their raid in the area till filling of the report.
