Ministry trashes reports on border seal by India

Update : 08 Oct 2014, 03:27 AM

The Foreign Ministry has refuted recent media reports that the Bangladesh-India (West Bengal) border has been sealed following a bomb-blast incident in Bardhaman.

The ministry issued a statement regarding the matter on Tuesday.

“Attention has been drawn to the recent media reports informing that following the bomb blast incident in Bardhaman, the Bangladesh-India (West Bengal) border has been sealed," the statement said.

It stated that the matter was immediately verified from the Indian authorities concerned who clarified that they have not given any such instruction on their side.

Quoting Indian media, several media in Bangladesh reported that India ordered the authority concerned to seal off West Bengal border with Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries in the wake of last week's blast in Burdwan district.

Indian daily The Hindu reported that the decision was taken at a high-level meeting with the Special IG, CID, Damayanti Sen at the State Secretariat.

According to the report, a high-alert was issued on Monday across West Bengal after the blast, in which suspected terrorists are said to have a hand.
