Mother, 3 daughters burnt alive in Tangail

A woman and her three daughters have been burnt alive after miscreants set their house ablaze while they were asleep at Sohagpara village under Mirzapur upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased are Hasna Begum, 30, her daughters Morium, 13, Mim, 10, and eight-year-old Moli.

Mirzapur police station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mostafa confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the deaths.

Terming the incident as killing, Superintendent of Police in Tangail Saleh Mohammad Tanvir told the Dhaka Tribune that neighbor Jahangir had been giving love proposal to Morium since a couple of days.

"He [Jahangir] might have put the house on fire being refused from Morium," the SP said.

Jahangir had been proposing to marry Mariam for two months and after the refusal he beaten Mariam and her mother four days ago, Abdur Rahim, member of Gorai union parishad told the Dhaka Tribune.

Gorai union parisahd acting chairman Adilur Rahman said locals noticed fire at Mojibur's house and informed fire service around 4am on Tuesday.

On information, fire service rushed in and doused the fire. Later, they recovered the burnt bodies of four people from the room also recovered two petrol containers from the spot.

Police detained two for their alleged involvement with the incident.

They are Nasima, aunt of Jahangir and Muhammad Ali, a rickshaw puller of the area, police sources said.

However, Jahangir and his entire family were absconded after the incident. The bodies were kept at Mirzapur's Kumudini hospital for an autopsy.
