The district administration of Chittagong and Chittagong City Corporation are preparing for a total of 254 Eid jamaats (congregations) in the port city as well as all 14 upazilas in the district for Eid-ul-Azha tomorrow.
The city corporation has arranged 158 congregations, and Chittagong Central Eid Jamaat Committee of the district administration is in charge of hosting 96 congragations across the rest of the district, said sources in both the organisations.
The first and main Eid jamaat in the city will be held at Jamiatul Falah Masjid ground in the city’s WASA area at 7:45am, followed by another jamaat at 8:30am at the same venue.
Maolana Nur Mohammad Siddique, senior imam of Jamiatul Falah Masjid, will lead the first jamaat, while the second one will be led by Mufti Mohammad Jalal Uddin, senior imam of the same mosque, said Abdur Rahim, public relations officer at the city corporation.
The rest of the jamaats under the city corporation’s supervision will be held in 41 wards under its jurisdictions in the respective mosques, he added.
Meanwhile, the main Eid jamaat under the supervision of the central Eid jamaat committee will be held at the gymnasium ground of MA Aziz Stadium in the port city around 8:30am, to be led by Baitush Saraf Madrassh Principal Maolana Syed Abu Noman, said Abul Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong district.
The rest of the jamaats under the committee’s supervision will be held in the upazilas, he said.
The preparation for the congregations is almost complete, according to the authorities concerned, who added that there would be tight security in the major Eid congregation spots.
