Sumon's post about Bachchu rocks social media

Update : 04 Oct 2014, 11:46 AM

A recent Facebook status note by bassist and vocalist of musical band Arthohin regarding LRB's vocalists and guitarist Ayub Bachchu has been rocking the social media and the country's music scene.

Sumon's comment, posted around 11:30pm on October 1, came as a reply to Ayub Bachchu's remark about Sumon given in an entertainment magazine, called Anandadhara, a few years back.

Before going vivid with his counter to the interview of Ayub Bachchu, Sumon also served the scanned copy of the interview with his post.

In the status note Sumon alleged that the comments of Ayub Bachchu in that interview was an “attack” on Arthohin and Sumon himself.

Ayub Bachchu, in that interview, said: “Arthohin has no role behind the development of the country's music industry that has been made so far.”

Citing some bands like Miles, Nagarbaul, Souls, Feedback, Warfaze and Renaissance, Ayub Bachchu marked all these bands as having been able to add a new dimension to music, but not Arthohin, even if it is a good band.

Ayub Bachchu made the comment when he came to learn at one stage of the interview that Sumon had always made the allegation that Ayub Bachchu himself never promotes any newcomer or gives them any room in the industry.

Sumon, in his bid to refute Bachchu's remark, said it is the audience who can best judge the contribution of Arthohin in the country's music.

Sumon added it is not possible that everyone will like my songs and hence I do not find anything negative in the fact that Ayub Bachchu does not like my song.

Bringing allegation of demeaning his song against Bachchu, Sumon said: "I have never undermined his songs that I do not like when I went on any TV programme."

Sumon also said Bachchu should have verified the facts before making "false blame."

Sumon asked whether there would be no remedy of the "false blame" against him and wondered if it [Bachchu's remark] had not been "a blame game."

In the interview, Bachchu also urged the audience and readers to be cautious about amadergaan.com, which he said was run by Sumon, adding that they do not have any right to spread wrong impression of Bangladesh and its music.

Despite considering him as a legend of Bangladesh's music scene beyond any doubt the Arthohin's vocal and bassist, who runs the Facebook account as Bassbaba Sumon, raised the question whether Bachchu can enjoy indemnity for any wrongdoing.

Sumon wanted to know on what basis did Bachchu tell the "lie" about Sumon and amadergaan.com. Sumon also asked why Bachchu said that Sumon runs amadergaan.

He also warned saying, "Can I spare the man who lied just because he is a legend."

In contrast to Bachchu's opinion, Sumon rather hailed amadergaan.com as the first website that sells the albums of musicians legally.

Mentioning that Bachchu claims that he works for the country's music, Sumon remarked that Bachchu did not even hesitate to make a lie regarding the website.

Sumon also suggested that talking ill of musicians is not good for music.

He called upon Bachchu to keep his mouth shut if he did not have enough courage to utter the truth. Sumon also urged him not to demoralise publicly.

Sumon says his writing are not intended to compare between singers but to "reveal the face of the people” and “to protest against the wrong."

However, he compared his involvement with music as a passion and that of Bachchu as a profession.

He said who is greater among them can be compared 10 years later.

He explains why he brought an old issue back in light saying that there is no expiration date for words and works, and both have consequences. "And this attempt [the Facebook] status is only the tip of the iceberg, an introduction."

Sumon says he has long tolerated the injustice done towards fellow musicians.

"But I have a limit, now I want to do protest against what he [Bachchu] said.”

He accused Bachchu of attacking him publicly, when Bachchu could have consulted him personally.

He regarded Bachchu's interview as a disappointment and now sees this as a war on a personal level, not about the industry.
