A 60-year-old woman died and a 13-year-old girl sustained severe injury in a fire generated from kitchen of a house in Muradpur village of Mirsarai upazila under Chittagong district.
The victims are Bibi Fatema, 60 and Priyanka, 13.
The fire generated around 1am on Thursday in one Abul Kashem's house named “Boro Bari” in the village.
Family members who survived the fire, said like other days, Kashem's daughter-in-law Shamsunnahar went to sleep after finishing cooking and serving dinner to the family members. Around 1am she woke up and found everything around was on fire.
Kashem's wife Bibi Fatema got trapped in the fire. The locals came to douse the fire, however, Fatema's roasted body was found lying on the ground after the fire came under co trol, they said.
While trying to save her younger brother, Kashem's granddaughter Priyanka sustained 50% burn injury in the incident. She was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Abul Kashem claimed that the fire damaged properties worth more than Tk10lakh.
Katachhara Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Anwar Sobuj have distributed relief among the victims.
