Six more cases have been filed against Posts and Telecommunications Minister, Abdul Latif Siddique, for his comments on hajj and the prime minister's son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Two separate cases were filed with a Chandpur court, two with a Khulna court, one with a Habiganj court, while another was filed with a Comilla court on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Khulna, Chandpur and Habiganj courts have summoned MP Latif.
In Chandpur, two separate cases were filed with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mashrur Salekin, accusing Latif of hurting religious sentiments.
Islamic Front Chandpur Branch Joint Secretary AHM Ahsan and Iqram Hossain Hamid filed the cases with the court.
After taking the complaints into cognisance, Latif was ordered to appear before the court on November 16.
In Habiganj, businessman Nurul Amin Bhuiyan filed a case against the minister for hurting the religious sentiments of the people by making controversial comments on hajj.
Nurul filed the case with the court of Habiganj Judicial Magistrate Mamunur Rahman Bhuiyan in the afternoon.
The court has ordered Latif to appear before it by November 2.
In Comilla, Mirza Fosiuddin Ahmed alias Shahin Mirza of Dumuria village filed a case with the Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Court 1 of Shafiqul Islam in the afternoon.
The Court has ordered Kotwali model police station Officer-in-Charge to submit a report after investigating the matter.
In Khulna, two cases were filed against Latif Siddique for his comment on hajj and Tableague Jamaat. The cases were filed by local daily Anirvan's Editor Ali Ahmed and member of Ainjibi Samity advocate SM Wasiur Rahman.
After taking the complaints into cognisance, the court summonded Latif and fixed November 11 as the next date of hearing.
On Sunday, Siddique made comments on hajj while addressing a reception arranged by the Tangail expatriates in New York, USA.
The minister’s “derogatory” comments on hajj have sparked widespread criticism both at home and abroad.
Following the issue, the government has decided to sack he minister from the cabinet. He will also be removed from the Awami League.
