Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has ordered Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) to fix the prices of rawhide and skin within Friday.
The minister made the order in a meeting with the traders of rawhide, finished leather and leather goods at his ministry on Tuesday afternoon.
He briefed reporters after the meeting at the secretariat.
Tofail asked the tanners to fix the price in a way that would be beneficial to both the buyers and sellers.
He also suggested them to consider the price in the world market.
However, BTA president Shahin Ahmed said they are not willing to fix the rawhide and skin price now.
Prices of the rawhide and skin are soaring abnormally in the domestic market ahead of the forthcoming Eid festival.
The country’s tanners have predicted that the prices of rawhide and skin would be higher this year than those of the last year.
