The government has decided to appoint Syed Muazzem Ali as the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India.
He is going to replace Tariq A Karim who was assigned to New Delhi in August 2009.
When contacted, Muazzem said he would fly to New Delhi in November.
Meanwhile, a press release of the Foreign Ministry said obtaining his MSc in Zoology from Dhaka University, Muazzem joined erstwhile Pakistan Foreign Service in 1968 through Central Superior Service Examination.
On August 4, 1971, while working in the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC, he declared his allegiance to the Bangladesh government in exile.
Later, he set up the embassy of independent Bangladesh in Washington.
Muazzem, a career diplomat, served as ambassador of Bangladesh in Bhutan, Iran and France.
He also worked at Bangladesh missions in Washington, Warsaw, New Delhi and Jeddah in different capacities.
He served as the foreign secretary of Bangladesh in 2001.
