The flood situation of Kalasona village at Fulchhori upazila in Gaibandha district has been deteriorated due to the heavy rainfall and erosion of Jamuna River.
Two mosques and an educational institution along with several hundred houses went into the river in a week.
Ali Akbar, a social worker of the village, said hundreds of families in Uriya union lost their houses in the erosion. The villagers of Kalasona became the worst victims of the erosion.
Abdul Hamid, Chairman of Uriya Union Parishad said: “Thousands of displaced people in the village are compelled to live under open sky.”
Abdul Awal Mia, executive engineer of Water Development Board, said: “We cannot do anything at this moment. Necessary steps would be taken after the higher authority sectioned budget for preventing the erosion.”
Besides, continues rainfall caused erosion of the river in a number of points of Fulchhari upazila. The points are Kaubadha, west Nishchintopur and West Khatiyamara in Fozlupur Union, Tinthopa, Paglar Char, Bulbuli, South Horichandi, North Horichandi, Ghatua, South Sonnasi, Anandbari, West Dakatir Char, Algar Char, Wst Jigabari and Dholi Patadhoya in Erendabari Union, Namapara, Katlamari. Galna,Jiadanga and Vajondanga in Gojaria Union, Kalasona, Kabilpur and Ratanpur in Uriya Union and Satarkandi and East Kanchipara of Kanchipara Union.
