Two robbers have been killed and another has been critically injured by mob beating in Mairan area of Gazipur City Corporation early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Saddam Hossain, 24, son of Awal Mia of Sanpara area under Kaliganj upazila and Billal Hossain, 30, son of Gias Uddin of Mauna area under Sreepur upazila of the district.
Critically injured Russel, 30, son of Fazlul Haque of Monoharpur village under Banaripara upazila of Barisal district was admitted to Gazipur Sadar Hospital.
Sub-Inspector Mobarak Hossain also the in-charge of Pubail police outpost under Joydebpur police station, said: “A ten to fifteen members robber group robbed off valuables at Delwar Hossain’s residence around 3am on Wednesday.”
“Later, they entered in Yusuf Member’s residence of the area to rob off his house. While they were looting the house, Ambia Khatun, 60, wife of late Yusuf member started shouting for help,” he added.
Hearing the shouting, locals rushed to the spot and caught three of the robbers from the spot and gave them a good beating, leaving them injured seriously, the official said.
Mobarak said: “On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured robbers and took them to Gazipur Sadar Hospital where on duty doctor declared Billal dead.
Later, Saddam succumbed to his injuries at noon.
Meanwhile, locals rescued Ambia and took her to Gazipur Sadar Hospital in critical condition, he added.
A case was filed with Joydebpur police station in this regard, the SI said.
