Either leave the port city Chittagong or stop doing misdeeds if you want to live in the city, the newly appointed Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal made the statement pointing at the wrongdoers, criminals and anti-social activists.
The CMP commissioner came up with the message while briefing a press conference at CMP Headquarters around 11:00am on Wednesday.
“Police are only for servicing the innocent people, not the wrongdoers, criminals and anti-social activists,” he said.
Abdul Jalil sat with the port city’s journalists for the first time after joining in CMP as police commissioner on September 21.
He was transferred from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) where he was an Additional Police Commissioner.
“I am here to provide a hazard-less living environment for the port city dwellers, to keep a peaceful situation in the city,” he said.
“I will do everything for a comfortable life for the city’s people.”
“I have already ordered the respective police stations and concerned police officials to ensure proper public service as I have come here to serve people not to command in a war,” he also said.
CMP will take strict actions against them who are involved with unlawful activities while no criminal will get rid of from the eye of law, added the commissioner.
CMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Banaz Kumar Majumder, Additional Commissioner (Finance, Administration and Traffic) AKM Shahidur Rahman, Deputy Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners and journalists of different print, online and electronic media were in the programme.
Abdul Jalil was CMP’s additional commissioner before his posting in DMP and he worked as superintendent of police in Bagerhat, Nilphamari and Joypurhat districts.
In his career, he was also in the UN Mission in Kosovo and Croatia.
