Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will stay in London from September 29 to October 1 on a private trip.
Currently in the USA, Hasina is scheduled to leave New York city, after attending the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, in the morning of September 29 and reach London the same day.
“She does not have any official engagement in London so far. She will transit there before going to Dhaka,” Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haq told the Dhaka Tribune.
In her 48-hour stay in the UK capital, Hasina would spend private time with her family members, sources said. Her only sister Sheikh Rehana and her family live in London.
Her tour schedule provided by the Prime Minister’s Office does not show any official or unofficial programme in London.
Tulip Rezwana Siddiq, the daughter of Sheikh Rehana, is an aspirant MP candidate of Hampstead and Kilburn in the UK general election that will be held next year. British Labour Party politician Tulip is now a councillor in Regent’s Park and cabinet member for culture in Camden Council.
The premier will go to London on a US Air flight but return home on a Bangladesh Biman flight on October 2. She will directly go to Sylhet and from there will come to Dhaka.
This will be Hasina’s second visit to London this year since July when she went there on the invitation of her British counterpart to attend the first-ever Girls Summit.
Bangladesh and Britain has a robust trade relationship under which Dhaka exports huge amounts of readymade garment to the UK market.
About five lakh Bangladeshi Diaspora are currently living in England.
