Aparna Ghosh is set to play the protagonist on Proshoon Rahmaan’s latest feature film, “Sutopar Thikana.” One of those rare films that has a female central character – Shutopa, it is based on the different stages of the character’s life.
Speaking enthusiastically about her role, Aparna said: “Acting as Shutopa is not a matter of joke. It is a serious work where I have had to give my best and showcase a wide range of my skills. For this role, it is not only my acting that will be counted, experimenting with appearances and doing justice to the character will be pointed out also. I will be playing Sutopa in four different stages of her life – an adolescent, a married woman, a widow, and then an old lady. From acting as a teenager to acting as an elderly woman, I have had to work hard to portray this character.”
“I have worked with Proshoon in various projects. I truly appreciate his trust, and that he casts me in such challenging roles.”
Talking about how this film differs from other woman-centric films, Aparna said: “It is very different from other films. At first, it has been filmed under Proshoon’s direction, then the message of the film is that a woman is like a nomad who has no specific destination. They first stay at their father’s home and then belong under the shelter of their husbands, and in the advanced ages, under patronage of their brothers or sons. The story has emphasised the obstacles a woman faces that constrict her from living independently.”
“A heart-rending story, my utmost effort should uphold the character strongly,” she added.
The film also stars Shahadat Hossain, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Mahmudul Islam Mithu among others. Samina Chowdhury lends her voice in six songs and Kumar Bishwajit has composed the music.
The film starts shooting from yesterday.
The government-grant winning project is Aparna’s fifth number on the silver screen.
