A black-flag procession was held in Jessore by the city’s Lawyers’ Association in protest of the 16 amendment of the constitution at 11:30am.
On a similar issue Chuadanga Nationalist Lawyers’ forum displayed a black flag and put on black badges at 12pm yesterday.
A few number of lawyers took part in the procession which started from Lawyers’ Association building 1 and ended at building 2.
After the procession, in short meeting, Zilla Lawyers’ Association Vice President Borhanuddin Zakir, General Secretary Abu Murtaza Choto, Senior Lawyer Ruhul Quddus Khan and Aminur Rahman delivered speeches.
During the speeches, the lawyers said the 16 amendment of the constitution has hampered the independence of the judges, it is ruining their source of income by the government and they demanded to cancel the amendment immediately.
General Secretary of the Lawyers’ association Abu Murtaza Choto said the procession was organised according to the instruction by the Bar Council but many lawyers could not participate due to the bad weather.
