The provost of Doctor Mohammad Shahidullah Hall of Dhaka University has been freed after three hours of confinement by the students.
Professor Azizur Rahman, also a professor of physics department, was confined by the agitating students at his hall office around 9:30pm.
Later, university's acting proctor Amzad Ali rescued him around 1am.
The students of his dormitory confined him demanding measures to mitigate longstanding problems in the hall that include lack of security and library facilities.
They also chanted slogan and demanded the removal of the provost.
A fourth year student of the dormitory told the Dhaka Tribune that they have been urging the provost to take steps regarding the issues for a while but he did not take any step to solve them.
The student said following the same matter angry students locked him at his office.
