Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged for hosting sports activities at all educational institutions on a larger scale for sound physical and mental growth of the students.
The premier made the call while addressing the closing ceremony of the 43rd National Summer Sports Competition of the secondary and higher secondary schools at Bangabandhu Stadium on Saturday morning, BSS reported.
She also expressed her firm optimism that global standard sportspersons would be created in the country through expediting the sports activities at the educational institutions at grassroots level.
Sheikh Hasina said: "Such competitions would help groom up brilliant sportspersons who would create world record and brighten the country's image one day."
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid also spoke on the occasion while Deputy Minister for Sports Arif Khan Joy and senior officials of the ministry were present.
The prime minister said her government has attached importance to sports activities at the educational institutions as well as education.
"The government is striving for sound mental and physical development of the youths," she said.
She underlined regular arrangement of the competition at all schools and colleges. The prime minister distributed prizes among the winners of different events of the competition.
