Mystery remains over man rescued from floating sack

Update : 19 Sep 2014, 07:54 PM

A day has passed after a youth was found alive in a sack floating in the Buriganga River but the police are yet to find out how he ended up there.

After his rescue on Thursday, the man identified himself as Md Sohel, 25, son of Jalaluddin Howladar of Bauphal in Patuakhali. He said he was a construction worker and lived in Aganagar of Keraniganj but could not say anything about what happened to him.

He is now at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital.

Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station, said: The man was rescued in an injured state and police could not quiz him to have any details.

“However, we suspect that he was a victim of some sort of rivalry or enmity as his whole body bore marks of injury,” said the policeman.

On the other hand, Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model police station, told the Dhaka Tribune they received no information on any such incident.

“We would take action if a complaint is lodged,” he said.

Officer-in-Charge of South Keraniganj police station Jamal Uddin Mir echoed Mujibur, saying there was no information on any such incident.

On Thursday, locals noticed a white plastic sack floating in the river near Beribadh area around 7am. They brought the sack to the riverbank and found Sohel’s unconscious body inside.
