Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the world leaders to take more effective steps in stopping war and conflict around the world.
She came up with the call while addressing the commemorative event of the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh’s historic admission to the United Nations at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
The PM also called the world leaders to allow the United Nations (UN) to play a more significant role in establishing world peace.
She also reiterated Bangladesh's firm commitment to play a pioneering role in establishing peace in the world.
In this connection, she also called for enhancing the capacity of the world body to effectively respond to wars, conflicts and armed violence.
On this day in 1974, Bangladesh earned its membership at the UN as an independent and sovereign state in wake of the nine-month long glorious War of Liberation in 1971.
