Update : 17 Sep 2014, 09:16 AM

Two buildings of the secretariat have suffered power outage for four hours due to technical glitch.

The supply of electricity in the buildings was hampered since 9am on Wednesday. Later, the power supply became normal 1pm, said an official concerned.

Secretariat’s Power Distribution Executive Engineer In-Charge Shamsul Alam said: “The power supply system of building number four and nine collapsed around 9am due to technical glitches.

“Four other buildings also faced power disruptions several times that affected regular work at the secretariat.”

The power disruption occurred due to voltage fluctuation, he claimed. “But, we kept the lifts of the buildings operational during the power disruption."

Officials and employees of the affected offices told the Dhaka Tribune that they had to leave their offices during the outage as it was too hot inside the buildings.

He further said: “Usually power is supplied to the secretariat from north and west grids. But as the north grid was not functioning, it led to the power disruption in building number four.”

The employees of the Power Division of the PWD immediately started working to repair the power supply system, the official said.

He said: “The prime minister will visit the Land Ministry tomorrow. So, the employees took time to fix the problems taking time to avoid any untoward situation during the premier's visit.”
