Arms, ammo recovered in Habiganj again

Rapid Action Battalion once again have found a large cache of arms and ammunition from the bordering Satchhari forest in Chunarughat of Habiganj.

The RAB officials said they have recovered the huge amount of arms and ammunitions from the forest on Wednesday morning, after conducting drive for the fourth time.

RAB 9 Commanding Officer of Shrimangal Camp Mosabbir Hossain said: “ Acting on a tip off, the RAB personnel conducted a drive in the forest and recovered the arms and ammunitions.”

He said: "A total of 15 sacks of arms were recovered in the drive. The sacks contain 112 rocket launchers and 50 rocket chargers."

"We will continue our driver, he added.

Earlier on June 3, a huge cache of arms and ammunitions have been recovered from the bordering Satchhari forest of Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj.

The cash included some 222 pieces of 40m rocket shells, 248 rocket launcher charges and other warheads.

RAB recovered the anti-tank ammunitions and charges from a bunker inside the remote forest in a daylong raid.

In another separate drive on June 9, RAB officials recovered 663 rounds of 7.62mm bullets, 54 rounds of 12.54mm bullets and a 37-inch long barrel of machine gun from the forest.

Later on September 2, the RAB members recovered two light machine guns, nine sub-machine gun, six self-loading rifles, one boat gun, an SMC, one 7.62mm bore automatic rifle, a sniper telescope 5 rifle and 2,400 bullets from the same forest.

Those were found wrapped in polythene inside two containers kept hidden in two holes of the deep forest.

Each of the holes was eight feet deep and six feet wide and at 15 minutes’ walking distance. The second hole was near the Tripura border area.
