The government will purchase 120 broad gauge passenger carriages for the development of railway in the country.
The project titled “Procurement of 120 Broad Gauge Passenger Carriages for Bangladesh Railway” will cost Tk975.97 crore. The government will complete it by June 2017.
Of the total project cost, Tk710.63 crore will come from the Indian government under its Line of Credit (LoC) while the rest will be provided from the public exchequer.
The project was one of the six projects approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting at the NEC conference room here with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said six development projects involved Tk4296.63 crore.
“Of the total project cost, Tk1928.53 crore will come from the national exchequer, while Tk5.03 crore from the organisation's own fund and Tk2363.07 crore in project assistance."
The Ecnec also approved the country’s first satellite project styled Bangabandhu-1 revising down its cost and extended its implementation deadline further.
The total outlay of the project has been fixed at Tk2,906 crore, down 10.7% from its original cost of Tk3,253 crore.
Of the total satellite project cost, the government will provide Tk1315.51 crore and the remaining amount of Tk1652.44 will come form foreign assistance. The project will be completed by June, 2017.
The meeting also approved the Institute of Livestock Science and Technology project involving Tk207.38 crore under which five institutes will be set up in Netrakona, Gopalganj, Khulna, Brahmanbaria and Gaibandha districts.
The Ecnec meeting also approved the Pre-payment metering for Khulna City (1st phase) with Tk42.43 crore under which some 31,000 prepaid meters will be distributed among the consumers of the Khulna city.
The Power Division will implement the project by June 2016.
Of the project cost, Tk42.43 crore will come from the government exchequer while Tk5.03 crore from the organisation’s own fund.
Two other projects “Tamabil Land Port Development” project with Tk69.26 crore from entirely the government fund and “Nimgachhi Society-based Fish Farming” project with an outlay of Tk33.64 crore also received the approval.
