Md Kaus Miah has been paying taxes for the last 55 years. Why has he continued to pay tax when many others opted for evasion? Kaus Mia said it’s his duty and by performing this he finds mental satisfaction.
The NBR awarded him a tax card, certificate and crest yesterday as the second highest taxpayer in FY2013-14 and
fifth highest taxpayer in FY2012-13 at national level. Kaus Mia has already received the highest taxpayer award seven times and long-time taxpayer award once from the NBR.
“I started paying taxes 12 years before Bangladesh was born in 1971. After Independence, I also opened a tax file in Dhaka. I believe my duty is to obey the rules of the country,” he told Dhaka Tribune on the sidelines of the award giving ceremony."
“I do business, earn money and pay tax as per the law,” the businessman said adding he feels happy when taxpayers money is used for the development of the country. Kaus Mia, however, urged the NBR not to depend only on the current taxpayers, but to include others eligible in the tax net."
“People fear that once they are registered as taxpayers, they will have to pay all sorts of tax imposed by the government."
