Chittagong Taxes Administration has honoured the 29 highest and long term taxpayers during an inauguration of a ‘Week-long Income Tax Fair’.
Housing Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain on Monday handed the honourary crest over to the 29 taxpayers who were nominated from Chittagong City Corporation, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati and Khagracchari districts in two categories.
Of them, two were in highest taxpayers’ category and three were from the long term taxpayers’ category in each district.
After the crest giving away ceremony, the minister, addressing as chief guest, inaugurated the Week-long Income Tax Fair at the port city’s Sarak Bhaban premises.
Mentioning that about 16 lakh people are paying taxes at present in the country, the minister said that the taxpayers’ numbers should be increased as the people’s businesses are going well.
Abdur Rahman Bodi, lawmaker of Teknaf constituency in Cox’s Bazar district, addressing as the special guest, alleged that the citizens who are paying taxes are facing bureaucracy troubles.
The taxpayers will be able to submit their income tax return through online in the future while a project of Tk200 crore is underway with Asian Development Bank, said National Board of Revenue Member Farid Uddin.
Tax Commissioner Dabir Uddin of Chittagong presided over the inaugural programme.
