30 injured in Habiganj clash

Some 30 people have been injured in clash between two groups of villagers over the occupation a vehicle stand at Umednagar area in Habiganj.

Of the injured, 10 have been admitted in Habiganj sadar hospital in critical condition on Monday morning.

Locals said there was a longstanding dispute between local Juba League leader Mamunur Rashid and one Rawshan Miah over the occupation of the stand.

Following the dispute, the groups locked into clash with locally made weapons around 10am that left 30 people injured.

Habiganj sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazim Uddin said: “On information, police went to the spot and fired 33 rounds of rubber bullets to dispersed the crowd.”

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid further untoward situation, he added.
