The National Board of Revenue is set to award 40 highest top individual taxpayers and companies with the prestigious tax cards for paying the highest income tax at the national level in FY2012-13 and FY2013-14.
A total of 10 individual taxpayers and 10 corporate taxpayers will be awarded for their immense contribution to the national exchequer.
The board will award the taxpayers at a function today at the Sonargaon Hotel marking the National Income Tax Day 2014.

The board has already issued a gazette notification publishing the award receivers’ names.
But the top and well-known companies’ name were not found in the list as the board cannot award the tax card to any company or individual who has tax-related dispute, an official said.
According to the list, the US-based Chevron Bangladesh Block 12 tops the highest corporate taxpayers’ category both in FY 2012 and FY 2013 and FY 2013 and FY 2014 though the company does not pay taxes by itself, rather it is the state-owned, Petrobangla, that pays taxes on behalf of the company.
The eight companies that will receive tax cards both for the FY 12-13 and FY 13-14 are Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd, Sylhet Gas Fields Limited, Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, Karnaphuli Fertiliser Ltd, Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd, American Life Insurance Company Ltd, Standard Bank Ltd and Citibank NA.
In addition to these companies, Tullow Bangladesh Ltd will be awarded for FY12-13 while Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd for FY13-14 as one of the top corporate taxpayers.
The tax card receivers will enjoy special privileges to access state functions, transport and medical services.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will hand over the cards at a function at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka.
State Minister for Finance MA Mannan, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed and the National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Ghulam Hussain will also be present at the programme.
The tax cards will be awarded in line with the National Tax Card Policy 2010.
Meanwhile, the board has also finalised a list of 362 individual taxpayers from the district levels and city corporation areas as the highest and long-time taxpayers.
Among them, 45 taxpayers, including two each as long-time taxpayers and three each as the top taxpayers, will be awarded under the city corporation category for contributing in FY13-14. The rest 317 will be awarded under the district categories.
The finance minister will hand over the certificates to the highest and long-time taxpayers from Dhaka district at the function while the rest of the taxpayers will also be awarded in similar fashion in nine city corporation areas.
Meanwhile, the board will also organise a week-long tax fair across the country which will begin tomorrow. The fair will remain open for visitors from 10am to 6pm.
The visitors would be offered the electronic TIN registration instantly.
