Attack on ex-DU prof: SCBA alleges govt instigation

Update : 14 Sep 2014, 09:11 AM

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Khandakar Mahbub Hossain has alleged that the attack on former Dhaka University Prof Mahbub Ullah could not have happened without government’s instigation and directives.

He made the allegation in a written statement during a press briefing at the Supreme Court Bar auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

Khandakar Mahbub Hossain said: “Prof Mahbub Ullah is an intellectual person. He takes part in various talk shows on TV channels. For this reason he was being physically assaulted as per the government’s instigation and directives.”

He alleged that the law enforcers played the role of silent spectators at that time.

"It represents the present law and order situation of the country," he added.

Supreme Court Bar Association General Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon said: “Police did not take any steps regarding the matter despite filing a general diary.”

Terming the incident as Supreme Court’s dishonour and attack on freethinking, the members of SCBA have demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
