Three people, including a reporter of NTV, were injured when a group of robbers attacked them at Bakapol area under Bheramara upazila in Kushtia.
The injured are Faruk Ahmed Pinu, 48, NTV's staff reporter and The Report's Kushtia correspondent, his maternal cousin Monowar Hossain, 50, and neighbour Monirul Islam, 40.
Police said they were going to Gopalnagar on a motorcycle on Saturday night when a group of eight to ten robbers attacked them as their motorcycle reached Bakapol.
The robbers took them to the nearby railway track, tied them up and beat them mercilessly keeping them at gun point which left the three injured.
The robbers snatched away Monirul's motorcycle, Tk30,000 cash, three mobile phones and a gold ring while fleeing the spot.
A police patrolling team noticed them and admitted them to Bheramara upazila health complex. They were later shifted to Kushtia Medical College Hospital around 1:30am.
Pinu said the attack was preplanned and the robbers tried to kill him because he is a journalist.
Kushtia general hospital Assistant Director Dr Azizun Nahar said several injury marks were noticed in Pinu's body.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police Proloy Chisim said police have started the procedures to arrest the culprits and hoped that they woul be arrested soon.
Condemning the incident, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Syed Belal Hossain said: “I think it is a hijacking incident. The robbers might have beaten Pinu more after knowing that he is a journalist.”
