A high speed Wi-Fi network was inaugurated at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen yesterday.
State Minister for Post, Telecommunications & Information Zunaid Ahmed Palak along with DU Vice-Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the network with 10mbps internet speed that is open for all.
The Dhaka University IT Society (DUITS) and multinational electronic company Ericson jointly sponsored the internet service.
Speaking at the inauguration programme, Palak said students of the top prestigious institution (Dhaka University) will be benefited by it.
“They [DU students] will propagate the ideology and inspiration of the liberation war and progressive activities as well through using social networking sites. Such Wi-Fi networks will also the research and educational purposes,” Palak expressed hopes.
Earlier in the day at DU Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), the state minister also addressed a press meeting on arranging the national Campus IT Festival 2014 jointly by the DUITS and the Information and Communication Technology Division.
Addressing the programme, Palak stressed on ensuring digital campuses to build a digital Bangladesh by engaging youth leadership in the field of information & technology.
The IT Fest is scheduled to begin today at the TSC. Around 1500 technology lovers from 70 educational institutions across the country are expected to participate in the programme.
Information Minister Abdul Latif Siddique is scheduled to inaugurate the programme at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the campus today. Two seminars, a workshop and a discussion will be held during the two-day long festival.
