The Election Commission has approved the inspection manual for ensuring dynamism, transparency and accountability at its all field-level offices in the country.
Seeking anonymity, an Election Commission official confirmed this to the Dhaka Tribune and said that the manual was approved at the commission’s meeting last week.
Under the manual, a special team will be working to ensure dynamism, transparency and accountability at all field-level election offices.
They will pay surprise visits to any election office of their own accord and will have no need to notify the relevant election office beforehand.
Many offenses were reported at a number of election offices in the past but they could not be dealt with because of jurisdiction problems.
The manual however ensured that the EC would not face any jurisdiction problem in dealing with any field-level election office offense.
The country accounts for 588 EC offices, including its National Identity Card Wing, Election Training Institute.
The manual provides the EC chief and his or her deputies provision to visit any of its office suddenly.
A regional election office chief must pay a visit to every district election office and upazila election office every month. The visits are categorised as regular, special and sudden to all the election offices.
Any district or upazila election official must write to the relevant officials and the EC secretariat in the event of finding any irregularity at an election office.
