Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the Bimstec member countries for extending regional cooperation.
The premier made the call while inaugurating the Bimstec secretariat in the capital's Gulshan on Saturday morning.
Sheikh Hasina said Bimstec secretariat in the country establishes a new era of cooperation among the nations.
“It will create several opportunities over ensuring the fuel security of the region," she added.
The PM said Bangladesh is working for development in the communication sector of the Bimstec member countries.
She said Bangladesh would also work for the development of economic relations among the friendly countries.
The establishment of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (Bimstec) secretariat in the country is considered a diplomatic success for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand are members of the Bimstec bloc.
Bimstec started its journey with only four participating members and six areas of cooperation but now it has expanded to seven members and fourteen areas of cooperation.
