Following a High Court order, Kumarkhali officer-in-charge has registered a case over the assault on ETV journalist Akhil Poddar.
Kumarkhali OC Lutfor Rahman recorded the case against ASI Kalam on Friday night on allegation of beating the journalist.
Earlier, police denied to register the case when journalists had gone to the police station to file a case over the incident on August 27.
On September 7, the High Court ordered the officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali police to register an FIR over the journalist assault by policemen.
In an interim order, the court directed the home secretary to submit a report within four weeks after forming a probe committee over the incident. Kumarkhali OC has been asked to submit a compliance report by September 17.
Earlier, police had beaten Akhil Poddar, a special correspondent of private TV channel Ekushey Television, when he was returning home in Kushtia on August 27.
