More than hundred people, including three police officials, have been injured in several sequential clashes between two rival groups centring the attack on a local newspaper's officer.
Two rival groups locked into the clashes from 11am till Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, unidentified miscreants attacked the office of Daily Lokaloy Barta and hacked its acting editor Anamul Hoque Sohel.
Sadar police station a officer-in-charge (OC) Nazim Uddin, OC (Investigation) Nurul Islam and Assistant Sub-Inspector Kusum Shutrodhar, among the others, were injured in the clash.
OC Nazim Uddin said: “On information, police went to the spot. Police fired some 93 rounds of bullets and 12 rounds of tear shells to bring the situation under control.”
“The injured have been admitted to Habiganj sadar hospital. Additional police have been deployed in the area,” he said.
