Flood devours properties worth Tk550 crore in Bogra

According to assessments by the government offices properties worth over Tk550 crore were destroyed in Bogra in the recent flood.

Additional District Commissioner Md Khorshed Alam said properties worth Tk150 crore were destroyed in Sariakandi upazila alone.

Chandidas Kundu, assistant director of district’s Department of Agricultural Extension office, said crops in 24 thousand hectares of land were destroyed, which cost Tk243 crore.

He also informed that information about 120,000 farmers from the district were sent to the ministry concerned for their rehabilitation.

Arifuzzaman, an official of the district’s Relief and Rehabilitation office, said around 22,000 houses and 179 educational institutions were damaged by the flood, which would require Tk50 crore to be restored.

Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Nurul Islam Sarkar informed that a 10km stretch of the embankment in Sariakandi was damaged by the flood, and Tk43 crore would be needed to repair it.

Executive Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department Md Naimuddin Mia said 436km of rural roads were damaged by the flood, and Tk40 crore would be required to repair them.

Khirod Kumar Paul, an official from the Fisheries Department, said fishes worth around Tk5 crore were washed away by the flood water.
