An earthquake has jolted in Chittagong at around 3:28pm on Tuesday.
Asadur Rahman, assistant duty officer of Chittagong met office, confirmed about the earthquake to the Dhaka Tribune.
“The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.3 in Richter scale and the distance of the epicentre was about 335 km southeast from Agargaon Seismic Observatory,” he said.
Our Chittagong correspondent said: “I came out from the 10-storied building along with others feeling earthquake.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department official told the Dhaka Tribune that an earthquake of 5.3 Richter scale jolted Bangladesh-Myanmar border at 3:28pm.
According to the department, the epicenter was located at 335 km to the South-East from Agargaon Seismic Observatory in Dhaka.
The US Geological Survey reported, the earthquake originated from 40km South South-East of Saiha, India. It is 94km East of Bandarban and 112km East of Satkania upazila of Chittagong.
However, the tremor was not reported to be felt in Dhaka, the official said.
