SAFA International Conference 2014 begins today in Dhaka with an aim to foster economic growth in this region.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the programme which will also be attended by Finance Minister AMA Muhith at its closing session at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the evening.
Hundreds of accountants from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal will take part in the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) Conference hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB).
Former ICAB president and SAFA conference committee chairman Abbas Uddin Khan came up with the programme schedule at a briefing at the ICAB auditorium yesterday.
He said the SAFA conference is a congregation of accountants from local, regional and international accounting bodies. The conference paves the way for the professionals to exchange their views, added Abbas.
The mission of the programme is to bring the accounting bodies together under a common forum and facilitate professional cooperation, he said.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Accountants for growth: perspective South Asia”.
Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies will present the keynote paper at the inaugural session.
There will be three technical sessions where professional accountants will deliver ideas to identify and evaluate challenges of economic growth of the country.
