Eight jhut (garment factory waste) godowns have been gutted in a fire that broke out at Palli Biddyut area under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur early Monday.
Kaliakoir Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Official Apurba Bal said: “The fire originated from trader Altaf Hossain’s jhut (garment factory waste) godown around 4:45am."
The fire soon engulfed to seven adjacent godowns, he added.
Six Fire Fighters' units from Gazipur, Kaliakoir, Mirzapur and Savar EPZ stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after 2:30 hours of frantic efforts
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately and, no causalities were reported," the official said.
Jhut trader Altaf Hossain said: “The incident might have taken place centering previous enmity.”
