The long pending recruitment process of 200 fire inspectors, out of the BCS candidates who have been waiting for postings after passing all the-three tiers of the examination, will be completed by October this year.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday came up with the disclosure at a media briefing after holding a regular meeting on Social Compliance for the RMG sector held at commerce ministry in the secretariat in the city. The meeting discussed about the progress of the overall social compliance issues.
Meanwhile, the government had appointed 67 class-one fire inspectors, out of the 200 in different categories, while rest of them would have to join as 2nd class inspectors by October.
Although, we promised to accomplish the appoint process of all the 200 inspectors by August, we could not full-fill our pledge as yet due to some legal complications, said Ahmed.
He also said the problem is very close to be resolved and hoped that the appointment of 200 inspectors would be completed by October at any cost. The government would provide cash incentives to the non-traditional export items to diversify products aiming at enlarging the export volume, the minister told reporters.
According to meeting sources, the meeting has assigned the senior secretary of commerce Hedayetullah Al Mamoon and labor and employment secretary Mikail Shipar to discuss the issue with the Public Service Commission (PSC) for accomplishing the entire appointment process by October.
“Since the inception of the Social Compliance for the RMG sector, the country has made good progress in social compliance issues in the last eight years,” said the minister.
“During the collapse of Spectrum Garment, there were no complete data of workers but after the Rana Plaza collapse and Tazreen Fashion fire incident, we have complete data,'' claimed Tofail.
The RMG owners have become more cautious regarding safety issues and establishing RMG factories in line with the full-fledged social and industrial compliance issues, said the minister.
“If Bangladesh gets duty-free access to the global markets as per the WTO rules, the trade volume of the country will cross US$50bn by 2021.”
In response to a query, commerce minister said: “Bangladesh's export to the market of Japan would be $1bn by the current fiscal year as the Japan government has allowed duty-free access of all Bangladeshi products except arms and hand gloves.
